Here are some interesting theories of aging
1. The aging process is due to the deterioration of the cells, as slight mistakes are made in their reproduction. That means, the new cells produced are slightly defective. These defects are reproduced and the tissue as a whole degenerates.
2. The free radical theory says that we age because free radicals (molecules with unpaired electrons) damage the cells when they steal electrons from molecules in the cell membranes it comes into contact with. Free radicals steal electrons to stabilizing themselves, rendering other molecules unstable, which in turn steal electrons from other molecules leading to a chain reaction. These free radicals even damage the cell DNA, leading to the mistakes in reproduction in point 1.
3. Aging is caused by hormonal imbalances.
As we get older, our bodie"s production of hormones are no longer optimal. Estrogen is needed to maintain collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid which gives skin its firmness. Interestingly, the estrogen-rich herb pueraria mirifica is used in thailand for menopause and makes skin and hair healthier. HGH levels fall past one"s twenties and corresponds to the loss of muscle, lower uptake of amino acids and the lower utilization of fat that is associated with aging.

There are other claims that I am particularly interested in, especially the claims of firmer skin (better collagen production and elastin production due to the better uptake of amino acids when you have sufficient HGH).
How far HGH goes in reversing aging remains to be seen, but studies have shown an increase in bone density, increase in muscle mass, reduction in fat and improvement of moods with the use of HGH. So I guess, that is the closest that is available right now to the fountain of youth.
